The finishing touch to the image of our municipality is its economic activities which are mostly rural. It is worthwhile referring that in the early 20th century, Kavala used to be the center of tobacco-growing which exported the particular product in Balkans very successfully. In our days farmers spend most of their time to the local olive presses and occupy themselves with the cultivation of olive trees which produce olives and oil of an exceptional quality. As one can infer from the dozens of wine distillers, the vine growing is also important and popular in our municipality. Besides, Biblinos wine, which Isiodos refers it as one of an exceptional quality, gave its name in our town—

Moreover, the natives cultivate cereals, almonds and heliotropes which are used for the production of bio fuels. In addition, Pangaion and Symbolo mountains are favourable for the breeding stock activities that enrich the local production with pure dairy and cheese-making goods. The rich flora favours the growth of apiculture and the production of high quality honey. Of course, particularly flourishing is the field of excavation of rocks, as many industrial units are located here and made all the products being greatly sought after by a lot of places in the interior of the country and abroad as well. In the coastal part of our municipality people occupy themselves with the fishery and especially, in Peramos one can visit the Fisheries Research Institute which is one of the most contemporary one in its field. Apart from all these extensive activities, traditional handicrafts—pasta, halvah, tahini—are very common and tourists prefer them because of their excellent quality.
